The small parish Church of St Thomas suffered from poor illumination in the main body of the church and the chancel. This was improved considerably with the addition of track mounted spot lights fitted at roof plate level and the replacement of circular pendant fittings. Simple and effective changes helped to enhance the services and control lighting with minor changes to the switching.

Other than a couple of wall mounted flood light fittings there was very poor illumination of the footpath through the churchyard and only borrowed light from local street lights offered any indication the church existed at night. By placing a single root mounted floodlight fitting the East and South elevations and bollard luminaires throughout the length of the path and controlled from a time clock and photo electric cell it was possible to make access and egress from the church buildings safer and give the building its prominence in the community.
